Previously shown off in 2014, the headset is the same as its prototypes but features a slightly different lighting pattern. Other specs are similar to the previous prototypes, including a 5.7-inch OLED screen and nine LEDs on the outside. Positional tracking is done by the PlayStation camera. The PlayStation VR has a very smooth experience, despite its lag.
The PSVR’s display is the lowest resolution among the three headsets. While the Vive and Oculus use 2,160 x 1,200 resolution, the Sony PlayStation VR only offers 1080p. So, if you want a higher resolution, you should opt for the Vive. This VR headset will be available for both PS4 and Xbox One. Sony has also said it plans to release a PSVR 2 headset in 2022.
It uses a processor box
The PlayStation VR’s processing unit (PU) is designed to handle object-based 3D audio. This way, developers do not need to account for the player’s location when creating an experience. In addition, it handles audio output to the HDTV. The PSVR PU is based on the same processor box as the PS4. It also handles the display in cinematic mode. Developers can choose to connect the VR headset directly to a television, but this is more limited.
The processing unit also handles the social screen. The social screen is the second screen for PlayStation VR. This screen outputs to the PlayStation VR headset and a television. The social screen can function in two modes: mirror mode, where the right eye of the display is displayed undistorted, and separate mode, which shows a separate audio and video stream. In the latter mode, 720p resolution at 30 frames per second is displayed.
It has four cameras
The Sony PlayStation VR headset features four cameras for tracking movement in virtual reality (VR). Similar to other VR headsets, the PlayStation VR’s cameras can be used for pass-through mixed reality, blending the VR experience with the display. The headset has already been confirmed to be ported to PSVR 2 games, such as The Walking Dead, No Man’s Sky, and Resident Evil Village. Sony is still working on the PSVR 2’s camera system and will announce more details when the game’s release date is set.
The PlayStation VR comes with a Processor Unit, which plugs into the PlayStation 4. This adds computational power for the headset. Another separate accessory is the PlayStation Camera, which costs $60. Both of these are needed for the PlayStation VR to work. Using these two cameras together will enhance your experience. But while they are necessary for proper VR play, PlayStation VR isn’t perfect without them. It’s important to remember that each camera has its own purpose, and they work in tandem.
It uses HDR technology
The PSVR headset has been around for a while now, but Sony has finally unveiled the next generation at CES 2017. The latest version of the PSVR will feature 4K HDR resolution, 110-degree FOV, and smooth frame rates. Although the company did not disclose the exact release date for the new VR headset, the new generation is expected to feature a slidable front that guides you into position to put it on your face. It will also feature a voluminous “accordion” face mask that blocks out light and might transfer haptic vibrations to the user. In addition to its new display technology, the PSVR will have two 4k HDR OLED displays.
To use HDR content on the PlayStation VR, you’ll need an HDR TV. If you don’t have an HDR TV, you’ll need a separate HDR television. Sony has partnered with a company called Spectra Labs to help you get the most out of your TV and PlayStation VR. Both the PS4 Pro already support HDR. Sony has been working on virtual reality since before it was cool to wear a headset. The PlayStation Move, the company’s VR headset, and PlayStation VR are built with the new technology in mind.
It requires a wired connection
PlayStation VR isn’t without its flaws. The headset is a wired one, and Sony has confirmed that this isn’t an intended design. Many VR gamers swear by cordless headsets, but tangled wires are a sure way to ruin the immersion in a VR game. Aside from ruining the immersive experience, tripping over wires can also hurt you.
To set up your PSVR for gaming on PC, you’ll need to plug it into a USB port on your computer. If you have an HDMI port available on your PC, connect the headset to that. Otherwise, you’ll need a spare HDMI cable. In either case, Windows should recognize the PSVR as a new display and let you start playing. In addition, you’ll need a free USB port on the console and an extra power outlet.
It will support native VR titles
If you’ve been waiting for the PlayStation VR to arrive, you can rest assured that it will be supported by a wide variety of titles, including the new PSVR 2. The company has been teasing the launch of the PSVR with various marketing campaigns, including a “crisper” image for the headset. The company also has teams with years of experience in the VR industry. It’s unclear how many new titles will be supported, but it’s safe to assume that most titles will support native VR.
The PlayStation VR is still in development, but Sony is not ruling out the possibility of developing new games for it. In fact, one of the latest PS5 games will support the headset, but it is unlikely to be compatible with the new console. While Sony has made “immersion” a big part of the PS5 hype, it is unclear whether PSVR will have a role in that process. However, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan did hint that VR may return as part of the PlayStation family at a later date.

This is a key benefit of Lighthouses, as they can track more than one headset. But the system is not perfect. The technology behind Lighthouse uses small rectangles, called Base Stations, as reference points for the positionally tracked devices.
